Matthew Baker Statement. At 16 I went to Blackpool & Fylde art school, which were the best 2 years education I’ve had so far. After that I went on to study painting at Liverpool Polytechnic and then architecture at East London University, and have continued to paint and work in architecture since then. Mostly my paintings are about my past and present lives, which often leads me to be very attached to them. Currently I am working on a series of paintings for a show at the Menier Gallery called London Landscape Painters, and have previously exhibited in the RA Summer show, the Hunting Art Prize, the BP Portrait Prize, the Royal Society of Portrait Painters and the Discerning Eye, and have built a few buildings along the way. Currently I live in Brixton with my beautiful wife and son, Rebecca and Dylan.
